Our Story
Yup, it's true. We really met on the 'gram.
We’re Amy & Emily, co-hosts of Not Your Average Gun Girls, best friends, entrepreneurs, self-reliant obsessed, and always striving to learn and do more to help women.
We met while we were both starting our respective brands. Amy launching Alexo Athletica and Emily creating Style Me Tactical. We slid into each other’s DMs over a shared love of fashion and our desire to be self-reliant.
We were having meaningful conversations around personal safety, women’s empowerment, and our general lifestyle and realized we wanted to share those conversations with you. We launched Not Your Average Gun Girls in 2018 because we wanted to normalize the conversation of personal safety and a woman’s right to defend herself.
Who is "Not your Average Gun Girl?"
Not Your Average Gun Girl is a title that Amy and Emily wear proudly.
The Not Your Average Gun Girl is every girl. She’s your barista, your cashier, she’s on the PTA committee, she’s your neighbor, she’s the girl buying groceries, and singing her favorite song on the commute to work.
What all these girls have in common is that they all take responsibility for their personal safety but you wouldn’t know it.
We are here to make it part of everyday conversations.

After obtaining a license to carry in order to be able to train for a marathon wherever she wanted without fearing for her safety (and look great while doing it ), Amy created Alexo Athletica because no product existed on the market that would meet her need to feel fashionable while carrying in active wear. So, she jumped on the opportunity to not only provide fashionable, functional carry-wear but create a movement of empowered, independent women that could carry with confidence.

EMILY VALENTINE, STYLE ME TACTICAL
Emily Valentine is the woman behind the lifestyle brand Style Me Tactical. In 2015, she started taking her personal preparedness and self-defense more seriously and what she learned was that there was a lack of resources available that she could relate to.
You don't have to sacrifice your style to be self-reliant
So she decided to share her journey online and create Style Me Tactical. She has established herself as a leading resource for personal safety tips and concealed carry style advice. She wants women to live a lifestyle where being prepared and having the ability to defend oneself can coexist with a woman’s desire to be fashionable.
